Compassionate Action – The Teachings of Chatral Rinpoche. Chatral Rinpoche, the quintessential “occult yogi”, has been a legend in the Himalayan region for the last seventy years. Although he had never travelled to the West, his incredible story and teachings have gradually crept into the consciousness of Buddhists in the West since he met Father Thomas Merton in 1968 and famously acknowledged that “he is the most extraordinary man I have ever met”.

This is the first book in English by this living legend, and includes his biography and autobiography, six of his essays, five prayers he composed, and an exclusive interview, and sixteen pages of photos from his life.

“Kyabje Chatral Rinpoche is recognised in the Tibetan community as a legendary adept who – like the great hermits and sages of the past – spent much of his life in retreat, practising meditation and granting teachings in moderation to a few very committed disciples of the Dharma. It is fantastic that we now have this precious collection of teachings and advice translated into English, enabling many more people to benefit from his boundless compassion and wisdom.” – Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book of Life and Death.

“Compassionate Action is a gem. Chatral Rinpoche’s teachings are clear, compassionate, and uncompromising. This book is essential reading for practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism and more, for all practitioners of all schools of Buddhism.” – Norm Phelps, author of The Great Compassion: Buddhism and Animal Rights”

KYABJE CHATRAL SANGYE DORJE RINPOCHE, born in 1913 in Kham, Tibet and having attained Paranirvana during meditation in tukdam from 30 December 2015 to 5 January 2016, is an unparalleled Buddha of our time in the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. He was the Vajra Regent of the Longchen Nyingthig, Dudjom Tersar and Sera Khandro lineages and was considered an emanation of the mind of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. He is revered throughout the Himalayan region for his compassionate activities, such as promoting vegetarianism and rescuing animal life.
