The Life of Gampopa. Here is the first full history of the life of Gampopa, Milarepa’s principal disciple and predecessor of the Kagyu lineage. Compiled from various Tibetan biographies, this comprehensive and inspiring delivery highlights the extraordinary details of Gampopa’s meditation experiences and presents direct insights into the practice and realisation of Mahamudra. A history of the Kagyu tradition requested by Lobsang P. Lhalungpa augments Gampopa’s biography, illustrating the leading role of this revered master in the development of the Tibetan Kagyu lineage. Concluding with a dissertation on the Mahamudra it introduces beginners to Vajrayana Buddhism while simultaneously supporting more advanced practitioners with fresh views.

Jampa Stewart’s biography of the most remarkable being responsible for the rapid growth of the Kagyu tradition of his glorious master Milarepa is informative and inspiring and will be of extreme value to the library of anyone interested in the profound ways in which the spiritual realisation of a single individual can impact on the lives of countless beings in different cultures over centuries. Highly recommend. – Jonathan Landaw, author of Buddhism for Dummies.
