In An Introduction to the Six Types of Bardo: According to the Words of my Teachers, by Khenpo Sonam Gyurme, who is the head khenpo of Benchen Nangten Thosam Ling Institute, Khenpo draws from a rich scriptural tradition. This work full of meaning about the Bardo is an indispensable reference for any practitioner.

The term “Bardo” means intermediate state: while in reality nothing is there or here, wandering beings usually do not recognise it and transcend the experience of the six types of bardo and therefore remain in the intermediate state, which is samsara.

Khenpo Karma Sonam Gyurme was born in the central Kyimo region of Nubiri, Nepal, in 1972. He became a monk of Benchen Monastery in Shwayambhu, Nepal in the presence of III Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche in 1990. He followed his monastic training according to Karma Kamtsang tradition for four years and acted as chant master (umze) for two years. He took full ordination from the supreme incarnation of Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche and entered the Budo teachings in 1992. In 1996, in accordance with the wishes of S.S. Sangy Nyenpa Rinpoche and Tenga Rinpoche, he went to Dzongsar Shedra, Choeky Lodro, in Bir, North India, where he studied for 12 years. His studies included the thirteen major philosophical texts, the eighteen recognized women writers, the summarized sutras, science and culture. He lectured at Shedra Dzongsar for one year. In 2004, the degree of Khenpo was conferred upon him by Supreme Choekyi Gyatso and Kyabje Khenchen Dorje Chang Kunga Wangchug at Shedra Dzongsar.
