Compassion Buddha Practice Sadhana also known as Chenrezig.
This text is the one used in the practices held at the Guhya Mantrika Community in Portugal.
This is a wonderful opportunity to practice Chenrezig, or Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. In these sessions we practice meditation and the recitation of the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM, through which we develop the qualities of universal love and compassion, which are in fact our essential nature.
Anyone whose heart is infused with love and compassion, who deeply and sincerely acts for the benefit of others without seeking fame, profit, status or recognition, expresses the activity of Chenrezig. Whenever we are compassionate, or feel love for someone or some animal or the natural world, we experience our natural connection with Chenrezig. Although we are not as consistently compassionate as the great masters of meditation, Tibetan Buddhism believes that we all share, in our true nature, an unconditional compassion and wisdom that is not unlike that which we see in Chenrezig and these great masters. We may have some difficulty believing that we are no different from Chenrezig, but by learning about the nature of compassion, by learning a little bit more about Chenrezig, by repeating the mantra OM MANI PADME HUNG and by imagining that we would like to be Chenrezig, pretending that we are in fact exactly like Chenrezig, we actually become aware of an increase of compassion in our lives, until eventually we fully awaken within ourselves to the wisdom and compassion of the Buddhas.
It is said that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this mantra, and through correct practice and constant recitation of it, we, as well as all beings, receive inconceivable benefits.
Pujas and Sadhanas
Pujas and Sadhanas are chanted meditations with visualizations, prayers and mantras that embody the essence of the Vajrayana Buddhist Path. Pujas are a powerful method for purifying our negative karma and disturbing emotions, as well as for accumulating merit, or spiritual wealth, and thereby leading to realisation.
By evoking the blessings and presence of Enlightened Beings we dedicate these prayers and the energy generated by mantras and meditation to the cause of world peace, harmony, happiness and enlightenment for all beings. With this compassionate attitude, participation in Pujas and Sadhanas is highly beneficial.
Who can participate? All those with goodwill! Although Pujas and Sadhanas are Vajrayana practices and require the receipt of proper Empowerment, Transmission and Instructions, these announced Pujas are open to the general public. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
Special Dedications: It is possible for anyone to make a gift of sponsorship of a Puja dedicated to a family member or friend who is ill, to someone who has passed away, or for support of specific needs. For more information contact us at [email protected]
