Bone Mala with Turquoise. Handmade bone mala made in Nepal with yak bone and turquoise stone. It has 108 8mm beads, three spacers every 27 beads and two counters made from the same material as the main beads.
Buddhist monks in many traditions are forbidden to wear jewellery, and serious lay practitioners sometimes follow this rule too. But the modern popularity of malas – as accessories, meditation tools, and more – has led to the manufacture of a wider variety of options, including coloured polished bone bead malas.
Caring for your mala:
- Please do not wash your mala or wear it while showering or sleeping, as this can weaken the mala’s thread.
- To clean your mala: gently wipe the beads with a damp cloth and place in moonlight or sunlight to dry.
- When not in use, store your mala in a Mala Bag.
