Medicine Buddha Resin Statue 13cm. Medicine Buddha is depicted in blue skin paintings. Still, whether shown in a statue or painted, the right hand is turned downwards with the fingers extended towards the ground, the palm facing outwards towards the viewer, a bowl of herbs rests in the left hand. Tibetans believe that the Buddha was responsible for delivering the knowledge of medicine to the people of the world. In fact, the right hand facing outwards means “to bestow a blessing” (i.e. to give a blessing) on humanity. This is a common hand gesture between both Buddhist and Hindu statues. The Medicine Buddha is venerated by those seeking health and is most commonly found in Buddhist temples and communities in Nepal and Tibet.
