Gypsy Gossip and Other Advice. This book contains the direct advice and imperishable wisdom discourse of Kyabje Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, one of the greatest realized Nyingma masters of our era. Much trouble arises when modern values clash with the precious teachings of the Buddha. Western Dharma students are confronted with obstacles filled with materialism, attachment to self, and resistance to traditional doctrines such as karma, rebirth, and devotion to the Guru, while Asian students under the influence of modernity risk succumbing to external nihilistic beliefs, the abandonment of their own unique heritage, and sectarian conflicts with indigenous lineages. The four teachings compiled here address these problems in different ways, which are united by the powerful quality of Rinpoche’s voice as a writer and his ability to inspire deep faith that leads to the recognition of Buddha-nature and the flowering of Buddha Dharma through learning and practice with reverence and trust.
KYABJE THINLEY NORBU RINPOCHE (1931-2011) was a prominent master of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, revered as an emanation of Longchenpa, a great scholar of the fourteenth century. Among Kyabje Thinley Norbu’s many books are A Cascading Waterfall of Nectar, The Sole Panacea and A Brief Fantasy of a Himalayan.
