The word “mala” in Sanskrit means garland of roses and originated in India. From Buddhism and Hinduism it passed into Islam and from Islam it passed into Christianity in times of the Crusades. malas or rosaries are used to count devotional words or recitations in meditation with mantras. This consists of repeating words to generate vibrations. One places it on one side and takes a count. Each time it is recited, the mala rotates and moves to the next bead. It is an effective way of staying in the present and calming the mind, achieving peace and silence.
Turquoise is an opaque mineral that exists in beautiful shades of blue, bluish green, green, and yellowish green. It has been prized as a gemstone for thousands of years. Isolated from one another, the ancient peoples of Africa, Asia, South America, and North America independently made turquoise one of their favourite materials for producing gemstones, inlays, and small carvings.
