Coloured Katha 8 Auspicious Symbols. The khata symbolises purity and compassion. Its main colour is white, symbolising the pure heart of the giver, although it is also quite common to find golden yellow, blue and red khata in Tibet as well. They are often placed around the necks of statues and hang from the top of Tibetan paintings called thangkas. It is an ancient custom to bring a Khata when visiting a temple, shrine, guru, or teacher. This is a way of showing gratitude for the kindness of your teacher and the jewels of his or her teachings.
