Bell and Dorje of Dehradun 5 points

The Vajra and Ghanta represent the perfect union of wisdom and compassion. The “bell” and the vajra are used as ritual items in meditation practice, retreats, and ceremonies along with other musical instruments, mudra hand gestures, and dance.

The “Bell” (Ghanta in Hindu/Dril-bu in Tibetan) is the feminine aspect of the perfection of wisdom, which directly realises emptiness.

Hear the bell:

The Vajra (Vajra in Sanskrit/Dorje and Tibetan) represents the masculine aspect, as method or skillful means, the indestructible nature of the absolute. Together they symbolise the blessing mandala of a practitioner’s principal yidam deity.

The dril-bu (bell) and dorje (sceptre) are indispensable liturgical instruments used during Tibetan Buddhist ritual recitation. They are generally considered as one object, are combined and used together. The bell is held in the left hand and the sceptre in the right while both hands move gracefully in prescribed gestures that serve as a commentary to the recitation. As a pair, they reflect the two aspects of Buddhist practice: method and wisdom, intuition and compassion. The Tibetan sceptre refers to the immovable and unshakeable (‘hard diamond’) consciousness of the Buddha. The body of the bell is further embellished by a crown of monster faces separated by auspicious symbols, and bands of small dorjes appear on the edge of the bell and on the shoulder.

This is a high quality Tibetan Solid Bell, decorated with embossed Tibetan Buddhist Dorji and Victory flag. This Tibetan Buddhist Prayer Bell handcrafted from seven metals, including brass and bronze in northern India, where traditional metal craftsmanship supports the entire community. The Bell has a great sound.

The five-pointed vajra is the most frequently seen vajra.

The sound of the Ghanta (Bell) is considered auspicious in Tibet and used to ward off negative attachments.
